Health Office

*Reminder that no medication orders carry over from year to year- any student needing daily or as needed medications at school must have new PA licensed provider orders and medications brought to the health office(this includes over the counter medications as well).  Inhalers, epi pens and diabetic supplies are the ONLY medications that students may be in possession of at school (with proper provider orders on file in the health office, in addition to sign off from parent and school nurse). Forms can be picked up in the office or printed from here.

Prescription medications:

• All medications must be in the original container/bottle with the student's name, grade, and date of birth clearly labeled.
• Medication supply cannot exceed a 30 day supply.
• Pennsylvania licensed provider order must accompany medication.  Order and medications must be brought to the health office by a parent/adult.  No student may transport medications (other than inhalers, epi pens, and diabetic supplies).

You may have paperwork faxed to the health office.  Please have documents faxed to 570-832-2258.  

*The school district will no longer supply over the counter medications -such as acetaminophen, ibuprofen, cough medication, antacids, etc.

It is optional for parents/guardians to provide over the counter medications for as needed use during the school day.

Please be advised, if you do not provide medications, your child will not receive any during the school day.

-If parents wish to provide:

-The over the counter medication form must be used. It can be printed from here or a copy can be picked up at school.

-The child's healthcare provider must order any/all medications. Must be a Pennsylvania licensed provider. Parent/guardian must also sign form.

-All medications must be in original container/bottle with student's name, grade, and date of birth clearly labeled.

-No more than a 30 day supply can be accepted.

-One bottle/container of medication per student- siblings must have their own medications and order form/s.

*The policy has NOT changed for prescription medications. Please continue to use the "request to administer medication" form for any/all prescription medications.

Medications should be brought to the health office the week before school starts . Monday- Thursday from 8am- 3:00pm.

The health office keeps medications on hand to administer in case of emergency, per standing orders from the district provider.  

1. Epinephrine- used to treat signs of anaphylaxis (severe allergic reaction).  It helps to decrease swelling and increase blood pressure until EMS personnel arrive.  The medication is injected into the thigh.

2. Narcan- used to treat signs of a suspected opioid drug overdose (accidental or intentional). Overdoses can occur with exposure through the skin, oral/nasal absorption, or injection.  It is a nasal spray that can help your child to breathe until EMS personnel arrive.

Neither of these medications will be given without assessment.  911 will be initiated immediately and parent/guardian will be notified as soon as possible.

**If there is a reason that you feel your child should not receive either of the above listed potentially life-saving medications in an emergent situation, please contact Mrs. Andusko (school nurse) at 465-3141 x 631 to schedule a meeting to discuss concerns for opt out status.

The following medications can be given per standing orders from district provider with parent/guardian permission. They may be administered in an emergent situation- including: trauma (possible fracture, etc.), high fever, progressive allergic reaction, and/or if parent/guardian cannot be reached for prompt student pick up.

3. Acetaminophen (tylenol)- given for temperatures higher than 103 degrees. 

4. Ibuprofen (advil)- used for temperatures higher than 103 degrees. 

5. Benadryl- used to treat mild allergic reactions (hives, mild swelling).
