Hello everyone!  Speech and language skills are indeed a student's hidden power that they use to succeed in the classroom.  It is the objective of Blue Ridge Speech/Language Therapy to assist with improving students' communication skills in our school.

Please explore the many resources and activities offered on this site.  Throughout the year I will be posting seasonal and holiday activities for you and your child to enjoy while working on improving speech/language skills.

Please visit often!

Articulation Program

As the result of routine articulation screenings, student's are identified as candidates who would benefit from Blue Ridge Elementary School’s Speech Therapy Articulation Program.  The goal of this program is to teach the student to correctly produce a specific phoneme (sound) that the student is misarticulating. A standardized articulation assessment is administered and the student will receive therapy for 30 minutes 1x per 6 day cycle.  The student will have a goal to work towards and progress is reported quarterly.

IEP Program (Individualized Education Plan)

As the result of a speech/language screen, an evaluation is warranted.  A Permission to Evaluate is required and a comprehensive speech and language evaluation is completed by the Speech Therapist.  If Speech Therapy is warranted, an IEP is developed to increase the student's communication skills in the area of need.

  Routine Speech/Language Screens

All students in Kindergarten receive a Speech/Language Screen at the start of   the school year

Students in 1st and 2nd grade who are on a "watchful waiting" list will receive     a re-screen.  New students, in these grades, are given a speech/language         screen.

Watchful Waiting - Developmental progress of a child’s speech sound performance

  • An inventory of a child’s speech sounds is created via an articulation (speech) screen
  • The sound errors are not impacting the child’s academic performance
  • The SLP follows the child over a particular period of time (re-screen)
  • If the child’s development is continuing and going in the right direction, watchful waiting will continue.  These children will most likely self-correct
